The Case for Change in District 4

By Ed Gogek, MD

I'm running for state senate to give the people of district 4 a badly needed choice. My years of practicing medicine taught me that people's concerns come first, and I want to fix the problems our majority party has ignored.

We have the most beautiful state in the nation and we're one of the most desirable places to live. We can also make this the best place to live.

Arizona is positioned to be an economic leader, and to develop new industries in bioscience and renewable energy. We can offer our children a first rate education. We can tackle the crystal meth problem and become one of the states that rates lowest in crime. We could rein in managed care and drug companies, and for no more than we're paying now, provide good health care to all Arizonans. And we have the know-how to solve our traffic problems and dramatically improve the valley's air quality.

Instead, this state has suffered under one-party rule for decades, and these problems have gone unsolved.

They let our schools slide to 49 th in the nation, let traffic pile up, did nothing while health care costs skyrocketed, stood by while Arizona topped the nation in crime, and turned a blind eye to employers hiring illegal immigrants.

On top of this, district 4's incumbent senator is woefully ineffective at solving problems. In his four-year career, only two of his bills have become law, and last year none did.

This is where I offer a choice. I'll work hard to be an effective senator who gets things done for Arizona and his district. I'll maintain cooperative relationships with other elected officials. And I'll bring dignity and respect back to district 4.

I will also work on issues that matter. I'll work with our Governor to improve Arizona's public schools. I'll help bring down the cost of health care with ideas gained from my experience as a physician. And I'll make sure Arizona protects its border and stops giving jobs to illegal immigrants.

Controlling health care costs and drawing the line on regulation and paperwork will help Arizona's small businesses, a vital part of the strong economy we must develop. And moving Arizona toward renewable energy and away from dependence on foreign oil will protect us from economic upheaval in the coming decades.

As your state senator, I will make these things happen, and that's why my candidacy gives the people of district 4 their best choice.
