Biography

Ed Gogek grew up in Decatur, Illinois and attended the University of Illinois. He graduated in water systems engineering, worked briefly as a civil engineer, and then went to medical school. Ed moved to Arizona in 1991 under a National Health Service Corps program that recruited doctors for physician-shortage areas.

He has worked for several public clinics in Arizona and for several years worked with the homeless in central Phoenix. He still works for one public clinic and his private practice in Prescott includes psychiatry, addiction medicine and homeopathy. Using both conventional and alternative medicine, he offers a choice to patients who either haven't been helped by medications or would prefer to avoid them.

For several years, Ed and his journalist brother co-wrote a column, carried by a branch of the New York Times syndicate, on addiction and mental health. Their writing received several recognition awards from the American Psychiatric Association.

Ed loves hiking and backpacking, and really appreciates the beauty of Arizona and its variety of landscapes.
